Hi SMS Choir Alumni!The SMS Choir Reunion is right around the corner and there’s still time for you to be involved!
Once you’ve graduated from any SMS choir, you’re an automatic member of the Alumni Choir. Our goal is to enjoy seeing and singing with each other, benefitting the annual endowment and performing on the beloved stage at South.
SMS CHOIR ALUMNI PARTY - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14
In the mood for a party? Want to be in the center of Kansas City's Entertainment District? Want to see some old friends and meet some new ones? Friday night's party plans are now finalized: The Marquee at the AMC Mainstreet Theatre in the Power and Light District on Friday, October 14th. Start time 7:00. Light appetizers will be served, drinks at a cash bar. Adults $10, students $5. Park in the secure, monitored, multi-level garage a block up the street next to the Cosentino's grocery store and only pay $2. It's all set--less than a month away!
ALUMNI CHOIR REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE @ FALL CONCERT
Saturday (October 15th): Rehearsal in the SMS choir room 9:00am - 3:30pm (lunch on your own) under the joint direction of Dr. Don Donaldson and Dustin Cates. We will enjoy singing through some old favorites from our high school years, during the afternoon rehearsal.
Saturday evening (October 15th): We will be joining the SMS choirs on their Fall concert at 7:30pm in the SMS Auditorium. Plan to wear black for the concert (pants or dress is fine) and carry a black choir folder. Please remember to invite your family and friends.
ALUMNI CHOIR ENDOWMENT AUCTION - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15Music: We will be performing the SATB versions of “Ain-a That Good News,” by Dawson, “The Lord is My Shepherd,” by Rutter, “Hallelujah” (from the Mount of Olives) by Beethoven and “He Never Failed Me Yet” by Ray.
Order the four pieces and a black choir folder (if needed) at jwpepper.com. Click on ‘Music Lists,’ enter the List name “SMS Alumni Choir,” password “Raiders.” The cost will be less than $10 before tax and shipping. Some copies will be available for purchase the day of the rehearsal. Check the Tracks page on the SMS Choir website for learning tracks and recordings of the pieces to help you be prepared before you come.
We are planning an auction to benefit the Annual Alumni Choir Endowment during the Saturday afternoon rehearsal (October 15th) and need your donations! Do you have any interesting piece of South memorabilia that you would donate? Maybe an A Cappella LP or something from the first year ... a yearbook? A signed pic of The Who concert? A concert program from our first appearance at the Kansas Music Educator's Convention in 1968? Something from Carnegie Hall? Chanticleer white gloves? A Varsity Men tie? Let me know!
