our new choir teacher... Dustin
Cates
Remaining
a "South"-ern kinda guy, Dustin Cates arrives at Shawnee Mission South
from Raytown South High school in Raytown, Missouri. At Raytown
South he set high standards for his choirs and consistently earned
superior ratings at state and regional music festivals. And he
raised the bar for RSHS by taking his choirs to perform at Carnegie Hall
in New York City.
You're
likely to run into Cates most anywhere in the Kansas City music scene, as
he performs in local theaters (Theater in the Park, Quality Hill
Playhouse, Unicorn Theater and more), and directs church choirs. A
graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, he is about to embark
on his master's degree in choral conducting from the same fine
institution.
And just
to make sure all the "i"s are dotted and the "t"s are crossed, Mr. Cates
is a member of the American Choral Director's Association,
Missouri Music
Educator's Association and the National Association for Music Education.
